Magic:The Gathering "Battle of Wits & Strategems"




Kuala Lumpur is given the honour to be chosen by Wizards of the Coast as the first country in Asia outside Japan to host the opening leg of five round Pro Tour series of Magic :The Gathering.

Magic : The Gathering is a collectible card game played by two or more players to 'battle out' in the world of Lorwyn, as each player has to use his 'wits and strategies' to outwit his opponents by reducing opponent's life total 'mana' points to zero. Playing Magic requires a great deal of skill and it always evolve, as new expansions of new cards and new mechanics on how the game is played are released every few months. Malaysia's top rank player, Mr. Terry Soh, who has been playing Magic for 4 years, earns around RM170,000 of total prize money, believes that each and every player has to play more often in order to gain experience and by playing Magic : The Gathering through online, will certainly improve one's skill.

Magic: The Gathering is created by a mathematics proffesor, Richard Garfield and it is introduced in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro Toy. Today the card game is played by over 6 million players in more than 75 countries, published in 9 languages and has been ranked "Top 100 Games of All Time" by Toy Industry Association. As for this Kuala Lumpur Magic Pro Tour Series is participated by 300 world class players from 41 countries, including Malaysia who will compete for honour in the US$230,000 tournament and the winner of the tournament is Jon Finkel, who walks home a cool US$40,000.
