Hitachi is making New Waves in Virtual Tape Library

In the face of inefficient faulty backup operation due to slow process of writing large amounts of data to tape, and customers are faced with high costs associated with keeping vast amounts of data available on their storage systems, Hitachi Data Systems Sdn. Bhd has launched 3 new suites of Virtual Tape Library (VTL) Appliances (Model 500M, 1000L and 1000E), which will retail at an estimated price between RM 0.5 million and RM 2 million locally in March 2008.

The new Hitachi Virtual Tape Library is to fulfill the needs of improvement on data physical storage, greater backup reliability operations, reduce backup window with de-duplication technology and lastly, reducing energy consumption, improvement on cooling system, and usage space by 25% and these 3 new suites are suitable for mid sized businessses and large enterprises.

Hitachi Data System Sdn. Bhd, Managing Director, Mr. Johnson Khoo, believed that the new VTLs is able to operate faster than other VTLs brand locally, due to its implementation of coded chipset.

According to sources from forecast and analysis on world wide VTL, IDC predicts the global market of VTL will double in value between 2006 and 2011, and able to reach US$ 1.3 billion by 2011. Looking at this figure, Mr. Khoo believed that his company's target of being able to sell 4-6 units of VTLs to government and banking sector next year is reasonable but he would be pleased if they are able sell 4-6 units this year, as Hitachi Data Systems Corporation has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the "Leaders" Quadrant for Midrange Enterprise Disk Arrays recently.
