Uniherbal Launches Spectacular Spartan
Uniherbal's new flagship herbal products, Spartan (in the form of capsule) and Herbavescent (in the form of effervescent) are produced by high technology from Poland and Germany, is accredited with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility worth RM 35 million in Raub, Pahang.
Launching the new Spartan and Herbavescent product into Malaysian market at Kuala Lumpur recently, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dato' Seri Jamaludin bin Dato' Mohd Jarjis, said that, government is stepping up its effort to spearhead the country towards becoming a world class producer of herbal products through new method and biotechnology from Malaysia's vast biodiversity.
Heeding the call from government, Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn. Bhd, through its wholly owned subsidiary, TPM Biotech Sdn. Bhd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Herbavescent Sdn. Bhd (a joint-venture company between Ipmuda Bhd and Provitz Biotech Sdn. Bhd) to collaborate in product development, contract manufacturing and commercialization of nutraceutical herbal products.
At this juncture, the worldwide consumer demand for herbal formulations are gaining popularity and according to World Bank projections, global herbal businesses is transacted at an estimated US$200 billion in 2008 and will surge to a dramatic US$ 5 billion in 2050. Looking at such a favourable figure, Provitz Biotech Director, Mr. Probhat Malakar, said that the company is able to rake in sales up to RM 70 million this year and they are focusing their business activity in Turkey and rest of Europe, the United States and in India.
Spartan capsule ( contains tongkat ali, ubi jaga, horny goat's, radix morindae officinalis, panax ginseng and golden root extracts) which has been claimed to last 48 hours and more powerful than Tongkat Ali and Viagra by Executive Chairman of Ipmuda Berhad, Y. Bhg Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed, is retailed at RM 80-RM 88, and Herbavescent an effervescent tablet is retailed at RM 30-RM 40.
Hitachi is making New Waves in Virtual Tape Library
In the face of inefficient faulty backup operation due to slow process of writing large amounts of data to tape, and customers are faced with high costs associated with keeping vast amounts of data available on their storage systems, Hitachi Data Systems Sdn. Bhd has launched 3 new suites of Virtual Tape Library (VTL) Appliances (Model 500M, 1000L and 1000E), which will retail at an estimated price between RM 0.5 million and RM 2 million locally in March 2008.
The new Hitachi Virtual Tape Library is to fulfill the needs of improvement on data physical storage, greater backup reliability operations, reduce backup window with de-duplication technology and lastly, reducing energy consumption, improvement on cooling system, and usage space by 25% and these 3 new suites are suitable for mid sized businessses and large enterprises.
Hitachi Data System Sdn. Bhd, Managing Director, Mr. Johnson Khoo, believed that the new VTLs is able to operate faster than other VTLs brand locally, due to its implementation of coded chipset.
According to sources from forecast and analysis on world wide VTL, IDC predicts the global market of VTL will double in value between 2006 and 2011, and able to reach US$ 1.3 billion by 2011. Looking at this figure, Mr. Khoo believed that his company's target of being able to sell 4-6 units of VTLs to government and banking sector next year is reasonable but he would be pleased if they are able sell 4-6 units this year, as Hitachi Data Systems Corporation has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the "Leaders" Quadrant for Midrange Enterprise Disk Arrays recently.

Magic:The Gathering "Battle of Wits & Strategems"
Kuala Lumpur is given the honour to be chosen by Wizards of the Coast as the first country in Asia outside Japan to host the opening leg of five round Pro Tour series of Magic :The Gathering.
Magic : The Gathering is a collectible card game played by two or more players to 'battle out' in the world of Lorwyn, as each player has to use his 'wits and strategies' to outwit his opponents by reducing opponent's life total 'mana' points to zero. Playing Magic requires a great deal of skill and it always evolve, as new expansions of new cards and new mechanics on how the game is played are released every few months. Malaysia's top rank player, Mr. Terry Soh, who has been playing Magic for 4 years, earns around RM170,000 of total prize money, believes that each and every player has to play more often in order to gain experience and by playing Magic : The Gathering through online, will certainly improve one's skill.
Magic: The Gathering is created by a mathematics proffesor, Richard Garfield and it is introduced in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro Toy. Today the card game is played by over 6 million players in more than 75 countries, published in 9 languages and has been ranked "Top 100 Games of All Time" by Toy Industry Association. As for this Kuala Lumpur Magic Pro Tour Series is participated by 300 world class players from 41 countries, including Malaysia who will compete for honour in the US$230,000 tournament and the winner of the tournament is Jon Finkel, who walks home a cool US$40,000.
