The Young Malaysian Artists: New Ojec(tion) exhibition, highlights radical new concept of Malaysian art, as 40 of the new artworks was creatively produced by 40 young artists aged between 25 to 45 years old. Canon’s 12-hour Photo Marathon Set to Challenge Malaysia ’s Shutterbugs

Canon Marketing Malaysia Sendirian Berhad,will be hosting the Canon Photo Marathon 2008 at Boulevard, Berjaya Times Square on 1 November 2008. The competition’s inaugural edition in 2007 received tremendous response from photo enthusiasts and this year’s edition promises even more.

The marathon is open for photography enthusiasts who will participate on an individual basis for a day of an exciting race around KL’s Golden Triangle. This year, the marathon will be styled after a treasure hunt with different stations around KL town where themes will be handed out to test participant’s creativity and photography skills.

Each participant will be flagged off from the base at Berjaya Times Square and given two pit-stop locations where they can collect their themes. Participants will need to head back to the base for downloading at the workstations provided and submission of one (1) best shot for each theme. Participants will be given approximately 2 hours to capture their best shots for each theme. The marathon will be held from 7a.m. to 7p.m.

Participants can join in under any of the two categories for Compact Camera users or Professional Camera users. Those joining the marathon are not required to use Canon cameras, however a small fee of RM 15.00 will be charged for non-Canon camera users.

Storage formats accepted at the workstations are CF/SD/MMC/XD/SM/MS. Participants using other formats must supply their own adaptors or drives. The entries at the end of the marathon will be reviewed by a panel of judges who will choose the best pictures each of the 3 themes given out as well as overall Grand Prize, Second and Third prizes.

The RHB Banking Group shares the joy of Syawal with over a thousand orphans from 14 Orphanages across nationwide, together with, Rumah Ehsan Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor, old folks home, which housed 110 underprivileged senior citizens.

RHB Investment Management Launches RHB Global Financials Capital Protected Fund

In its initiative to take a defensive approach due to the current stock market uncertainties, RHB Investment Management Sendirian Berhad (RHBIM) has launched the RHB Global Financials Capital Protected Fund (RGFCPF) recently.

The RGFCPF is aimed to provide investors the opportunity to ride on the recovery of the global financial sectors with the added assurance of protection for their investment capital. It is claimed that, RGFCPF is a low risk fund, invests at least 85% of its capital raised in Zero-coupon Negotiable Instruments of Deposit (ZNIDs) to provide capital protection when held to maturity, with the remainder invested in over-the-counter options to provide potential income to the Fund.

19th National Real Estate Convention To Address Housing Industry Concerns

The upcoming 19th National Real Estate Convention 2008 (NREC), jointly organised by FIABCI Malaysian Chapter, together with co-organisers, The Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (ISM) and Associate of Valuers and Property Consultants in Private Sectors Malaysia (PEP), will be held at OneWorld Hotel from August 26 to August 27, 2008.

The timely NREC 2008, will serve as a platform to address current housing and estate concerns as well as to improvise strategies to overcome rising costs of housing industry.

Datuk Richard Fong who is President of FIABCI Malaysia and Group Executive Vice-Chairman of Glomac Bhd said "some developers are set to increase 30% of selling prices of houses, but other developers, may build smaller homes than the current size, to remain profitable". Datuk Richard also voiced concern over the cement price which has shot up more than 50% in the last 3 months and prices of the steel which has doubled to RM4000 per tonne compared to price 12 months ago.

The Annual Tribe Toyota-Amazing Trails was recently held at the UMW Toyota Subang Jaya Branch, with over 80 types of Toyota vehicles used. The Amazing Trails is different from other treasure hunt as it challenge 400 over participants from nationwide to hunt for FOOD. This treasure hunt also involved teamwork and mild physical challenges, as at one of the stops, participants had to roll a giant dice to choose from a menu of 1 to 6 drinks, blended from different organic ingredient. At Batu Caves, the participants were given a task to climb 272 steps rigorously to get one of the clues after which, a "teh tarik" challenge awaited them.

At final stage, participants were tasked to experience "mix-of-spices" challenge, where they had to identify different types of spices after a mix up. The hunt ended at Genting Sempah before the participants headed up to Genting Highland for a night's stay and prize presentation.

During the prize presentation and dinner, Director of Customer Group Service, Mr. Ismet Suki said, "when we were planning for this event, we are thinking of a theme that would appeal to all our members, I'm glad to see that the food has caught everyone's attention".

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility has been an integral part of its culture since it was formed in 1982, has initiated its brand new environmental program, namely, the Toyota Eco Rangers programme at Cope Adventures Hulu Langat recently. This programme was conceived as a way to promote awareness of the environment amongst schoolchildren and to equip them with proper knowledge as well as skills for caring and nurturing the trees planted.

The three-day workshop under the Toyota Eco Rangers programme, was participated by 46 secondary schoolchildren from 23 secondary schools across the nationwide, selected by the Ministry Education of Malaysia, set to entrust to plant and care for 100 various trees within their school compound and surrounding community for a year.

During the workshop period, schoolchildren were exposed to eco-related activities to learn and recognise different types of trees in Malaysia, by visiting the Putrajaya botanical gardens, nature night walks and landscaping activities. After gaining knowledge from the workshop, the students will implement the knowledge to the actual planting of trees, commencing in July. Each school will receive a grant of RM500 and starter kits from UMW Toyota Motor.

Meanwhile, Dato' Noor Rezan, Deputy Director General, Schools Division, Ministry of Education said, the workshop that these students have just attended provides them with skills and knowledge that able to use outside of the classroom and develops the students' problem-solving skills. Galeri Petronas Launches 'MATAHATI' Artworks For Everyone

Galeri Petronas has officially launched the exhibition of MATAHATI artworks featuring 107 pieces of art collection from five prominent Malaysian artists, namely, Ahmad Fuad Osman, Ahmad Shukri Mohamed, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Hamir Soib @ Mohamed and Masnoor Ramli Mahmud.

Organised by Galeri Petronas and curated by June Yap, this exhibition featuring paintings, sculptures, installations and video spans 4 venues, each carrying a specific theme namely, GALERI PETRONAS (Early Years, Developments & Explorations, Humanity & Community), The Annexe Gallery (Art & Life in Contemporary Malaysia), House of MATAHATI (Self & Representation) and 12 Art Space Gallery (Taking Issue with Art). UMW Toyota Moto Sdn. Bhd (UMWT) has launched its 10th generation Corolla, the all new Toyota Corolla Altis at Kuala Lumpur recently. Compared with the previous edition, the new Altis is 10mm longer and overall width is increased by 55mm for enhanced cabin spaciousness.

The engines in the new Altis 3ZZ-FE (1.6-litre) provides 80kW/109 ps @ 6000rpm (compared with 81kW/110 ps @6000rpm in previous Altis model) and the new 1ZZ-FE engine (1.8-litre) provides 97kW/ 132 ps @ 6000rpm (compared with 100kW/ 136ps @ 6000rpm in previous Altis model). The slight changes in power output of the engines is due to compliance of Euro-3 emission control regulations, which required the installation of two catalytic converters.

Over the last two years, UMW Motor has a total of 89 branches and dealers nationwide and will continue its effort to upgrade its 1S facilities and will add more 3S facilities in continuing its effort to meet customers satisfaction.
